If you are bothered by loose skin and fat around your waist, consider a belt lipectomy. A belt lipectomy, also known as a lower body lift, is a surgical procedure that reshapes the patient's abdomen, hips, thighs, and buttocks. A lower body lift is a procedure that is typically performed after massive weight loss, which removes a belt of loose skin and fat from the patient's midsection.
A lower body lift is an extensive surgical procedure that needs to be approached with care by the patient and by an expertly trained surgeon
The goals of a belt lipectomy include flattening the belly and getting rid of any hanging apron, lifting the pubic area, creating a waist in the female, lifting the front of the thighs and outer thighs, creating an ending point for the lower back and a beginning of the buttocks and lifting the buttocks. In addition, augmentation of the buttocks using the patient’s own tissue is frequently possible to enhance a ‘deflated’ appearance of the buttocks.
Though the surgery is extensive, generally patients are able to walk the same day of surgery, once they are awake and alert. Patients are expected to stay in the hospital for a minimum of one night.
Although the effects of a lower body lift are very significant immediately after surgery, especially for those with large hanging aprons, the results will continue to dramatically change and improve over a 1-year period. Scar quality will continue to mature and improve for that same 1-year period. However, the color of the scar will continue to improve for up to 3 years in some patients.
