Can You Refill Your Saline Breast Implants?

San Antonio Plastic Surgeon Dr. Matt Bindewald Explains

· Breast Augmentation,Breast Implants,Saline Breast

If you're suffering from a ruptured implant, you're not alone. A ruptured saline breast implant is incredibly common. The majority of women will see at least one rupture in an 11-year time span. So how should you remedy the problem? If you're thinking about trying to refill the implant, you may want to reconsider. Here's what you should know about saline implants and breast augmentation.

Don't Refill - Replace

Breast implants are not designed to last your entire lifetime. As the implant sits inside of your body, the materials will continue to weaken. When you do encounter a ruptured implant, it's important to replace the entire one. You may also consider replacing the other implant, since it's likely nearing the end of its lifespan as well. Unfortunately, you can’t simply refill them. If you're looking for a skilled plastic surgeon in San Antonio, you'll be happy to know that we specialize in breast implant replacements.

How Often to Replace

There is no set time for replacing implants. If implants are not leaking and causing you no other problems it is hard to say that you need to have a surgical procedure. If you are troubled by ruptured implants, capsular contractures (scarring around the implant) or simple want a different size or shape we can help you. The good news is that, because both you and your body are already used to having implants (and because your skin won't need to stretch to accommodate larger breasts), replacing your implants, whether they're saline or silicone, can be much easier the second time around as long as they are not significantly different and there are no other complicating factors.
