Losing weight is a challenging task, and, once you've done it, it's something to be proud of. Weight loss success is a team effort, and these five incredible weight loss stories will inspire and motivate you to stay on track:
Laura had always been healthy and fit, but when she entered into her first year of college, she gained the dreaded "freshman 15." For years after that, she struggled to manage her weight. During times of stress or hardship, she found herself binge eating in an attempt to cope with her feelings. Over time, her health began to deteriorate, and she discovered that she was actually in physical pain due to the excess weight she was carrying. Her knees and back started to bother her, and she developed dangerously high blood pressure. Luckily, a good friend's mother had undergone bariatric surgery and recommended the procedure to Laura. Within six months, Laura weighed a massive 100 pounds less and found that the surgery improved her quality of life drastically.
After giving birth to her two children, Joanna Boyles decided she wanted to reclaim the body she had in college. Unfortunately, she couldn't afford a gym membership. Refusing to let that stop her, however, Joanna began to piece together a home-made gym in her backyard. In the months that followed, she combed yard sales for weights, kettle-bells, and workout equipment. When she had assembled her gym, she watched online tutorials and free workout videos. Soon, she had lost 45 pounds and gained the toned, muscular body she had during her younger years.
Unlike Laura in the earlier story, Lynn had struggled with her weight since childhood. As an adult, she experimented with various diets simply to find that any success she experienced was short-lived. After being let down by conventional weight loss procedures time and time again, Lynn opted for bariatric surgery in 2007. Within the first year, she had lost 100 pounds, and in the years since her surgery, she has lost (and kept off) an impressive total of 145 pounds. Today, Lynn enjoys increased mobility, better health, and an improved quality of life thanks to her impressive weight loss.
Ed French is a 56-year old man with a complicated history of obesity in his family. After being on dozens of yo-yo diets for 45 years and finding all of them unsuccessful, Ed decided that bariatric surgery was the best bet to get the body he wanted, despite his genetic struggle. Ed had surgery in August of 2006 and began his journey of healthy, long-term weight loss. Today, Ed has lost a total of 170 pounds and has managed to keep the weight off successfully -- something he was never able to do with other weight loss methods.
A plus-size model, Rosie Mercado began her weight loss journey when she was approached by a flight attendant on a Las Vegas-New York flight who told her that, since her 65-inch hips would not fit into one seat, she would need to buy a second fare for the trip. While the incident was not her first experience with the ways that weight could negatively impact her life (at her heaviest, Mercado weighed 410 pounds), it was the experience that motivated her to change. Today, Mercado weighs 201 pounds and wears a size 16. She credits her impressive weight loss to healthier food choices and the help of a trainer.
